Last Visit

4/15/2011

Today was my last day with this class. I got to play Easter games with the students on the SMART board. We also went to art class and made clay pinch pots. We went to the library and the librarian read the students a book. When they were finished they were allowed to play some games that helped them to recall the story they had listened to. When we went back to class I worked with a few students individually on some reading packets. I really will miss these students. Hopefully I can talk the teacher into letting me come back every once in a while.

4th Visit

4/13/2011

Today I got to watch a movie with the students on the board. Once we finished with the movie I worked with a small group of students on some math problems. The other students were working on computers at the same time. Some were using the board to play games and puzzles.

3rd Visit

4/11/2011

I got to work one-on-one with a very challenging student. I could tell this student didn't really like  working with me but we got through it together. Some of these children have a difficult time with basic reading skills. I hope that I can help them to love reading. The teacher has already stated that these children may struggle when they get to middle school because they won't be accustomed to reading at the grade level. I will try to help as much as I can.

Second Visit

4/8/2011

Well today was just as good as my first day here. My teacher used the board again today. We also broke the class up into three groups and I got to work with some students one-on-one. I also went with the class to the art room and helped them make puppet dragons. I am really starting to bond with some of the students. Most of the students are sort of shy and will take a little while to warm up to me. I really love this class.

First Impressions-2nd Edition

4/1/2011

My first impression of this school is that it is a lot better than the last school I visited. All of the teachers are very nice and seem to love their jobs. I also like the interior of the school. It is welcoming. There are murals on the walls that cater to the children. I love my teacher. She is blunt and to the point. I like that she is open with me about the challenges of teaching a class like this. The teacher used the board during my first observation. The students were also allowed to get on the computers and work on math problems. Some students also played math games on the SMART board.

Whew.. Last Day!

3/10/2011

The students are getting ready for PASS testing. All the class had to do today was read 3 out of 6 essays and evaluate them. They had handouts with the essays on them. Another day where the SMART board wasn't even turned on. I hope I have a board that I can use when I become  a teacher. My observations have shown me what I don't want to do when I get in the classroom.

My Time Is Almost Over

3/4/2011

Okay the teacher didn't even turn the board on today while I was there. The students did worksheets and read out loud about ancient Rome. There isn't a whole lot to talk about this time. I can't believe the teachers don't make use of the technology that they have.
